The 2023 Digital Ethics Competition was held, including an awards ceremony for digital ethics creative content SK Broadband's Managing Director Kim Sung-jin Among 9 Honored by the government for Advancing Digital Ethics The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Acting Chairman Lee Sang-in) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA, President Hwang Jong-sung) held the The 2023 Digital Ethics Competition and Award Ceremony for Merit in Protection of Internet and Telecommunication Users at the Post Tower on December 15. The 14th anniversary of the Digital Ethics Competition was a platform to recognize outstanding contributions in digital ethics creative content and acknowledge individuals who played a pivotal role in fostering a positive digital culture. About 150 winners, families and acquaintances participated to share their joy. Kicking off with the "Digital World I Want" performance by the Brillante Children’s Choir, the 2024 Digital Ethics Vision Declaration ceremony followed, where participants pledged to work towards a future digital world characterized by truth, and respect. The recently chosen 2024 Digital Ethics slogan aims to spearhead the effort in creating a harmonious digital world, addressing the escalating issues of digital dysfunctions, including the spread of false and manipulated information and defamation due to the proliferation of digital technology. Secretary-general Cho Sung-eun of the KCC, President Hwang Jong-sung of the NIA, and the representative of winners attended the event. Promotional creator ambassadors, creator Dotty (Na Hee-sun), Choi Hee, and a Youtuber Yell sister (Choi Ye-rin), were also present at the declaration ceremony. Following that, ceremonies were conducted to commend individuals for their meritorious contributions to fostering a digital ethics culture, and awards were presented to the winners of the Digital Ethics Creative Content Contest. The citations of KCC Chairman for fostering a digital ethics culture was awarded to Kim Min-jung, a teacher at The KCC Chairman, Kim Yang-won, a teacher at Songwoo Elementary School, Yum Kang-hyun, a senior researcher at the NIA, and the Busan National Science Museum (organization) for their contribution to digital ethics education and awareness. The Grand Prize (Presidential Award) went to Seo Hye-jin, a teacher at Seoul Yeoksam Elementary School, who submitted an ethical application method of generative artificial intelligence considering the accuracy, bias, and copyright. The top prize (Prime Minister's Award) went to Kim Ji-soo, a student at Kyungil University, for her compelling demonstration of the dangers of digital sex crimes and the need to be alerted to them. Finally, during the ceremony for the National Government Award for the Protection of Internet and Communication Service Users, recognition was bestowed upon individuals who played a pivotal role in advocating for the rights and interests of users in the Internet and communication sectors. A total of nine individuals were honored, comprising one order, one medal, three presidential citations, and four prime minister citations. Kim Sung-jin, the Managing Director of SK Broadband, was honored with the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for his remarkable contributions. The order was awarded in recognition of his efforts in introducing a one-stop service aimed at preventing harm to users resulting from the failure to terminate communication services. Park Hyung-joo, head of KB Kookmin Bank's new digital business division, was awarded the medal. Park was recognized for implementing the first banking app-based identification service in the financial sector and playing a leading role in the policy of opening digital public services. In addition, Moon Jung-wook, Executive Manager of the KISDI, Park Chang-min, Team Leader of the KISA, and Seo Won-chul, Managing Director of KT, won the presidential commendation. Kwon Oh-hong, Team Leader of LG Uplus, Kim Chul-soon, Senior Manager of KT, Oh Jae-hee, manager of SK Broadband, and Han Sang-hoon, Team Leader of SK Telecom, received the prime minister citations. Cho Sung-eun, secretary-general of the KCC, said, "We sincerely thank the winners for their efforts to spread digital ethics and protect users," and added, "We will continue to pursue various policies so that all citizens can enjoy a wholesome and beautiful digital world." ### The Korea Communications Commission |
