KCC Declares the 2017 Beautiful Internet World Week

On September 4 at 2PM, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Lee Hyo-seong) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA, President Suh Byung-jo) held the declaration ceremony for the "2017 Beautiful Internet World" at the KBS ArtHall in Seoul. September 4 to 16 was declared the "Beautiful Internet World Week" and there are a variety of on/offline campaigns and cyber ethics programs planned for the duration of the two weeks.

Approximately 300 people including the KCC Chairman, NIA President Suh, the Internet Dream Team, and teachers and parents of students attended the declaration ceremony.

Under the theme of "We Create a Beautiful Internet World," the ceremony was composed of various interactive events, including a VR musical and magic show portraying a beautiful Internet world, a performance by the KBS Children's Choir, a large-scale, interactive puzzle expressing participants good wishes and promises for a beautiful Internet world, and a cyber ethics content gallery.

Mini-presentations at the ceremony by Moon Ki-hoon, age 33, a cyberethics teacher who has met with students over 100 times a year to teach on the subject of "A Beautiful Internet World" and Kwon Chang-dae, grade six at Hwasung Maesong Elementary School, who is part of the Korea Internet Dream Team and was chosen as a leader for the Beautiful Internet World were well received by the audience.

Before the ceremony, a special lecture was held at Seoul Samsung Elementary School on cyberethics. Popular Korean comedian Yang Sang-guk hosted the event, which included a "Golden Bell" quiz game on cyber ethics.

At the lecture, Chairman Lee asked questions during the "Golden Bell" quiz. He also ate lunch with students, teachers, and parents in the cafeteria and spoke with the future generation and their parents on the topic of a beautiful and safe Internet.

The KCC declared the two weeks from September 4 to 16 the Beautiful Internet World Week. During this time, there will be various activities to promote cyberthics and culture including public street events in the five metropolitan cities, events to experience cyberethics, focused cyber ethics training (with school materials to prevent cyber bullying, along with concerts and art experiences, and a school program for correct Internet use for preschoolers), a poetry contest through the Beautiful Internet World website, and more.

On the occasion of the Beautiful Internet World, Chairman Lee commented, "we will continuously strengthen customized training and education for different groups so people can use the Internet and media in a safe and healthy manner. He added, "we will promote activities where people can get involved to raise their awareness and understanding of cyberethics, and implement what they have learned."

The KCC and NIA plan to hold events for the public to share their creative ideas as part of the Beautiful Internet World Dream Festival until the end of the year, including the Internet Dream Children's Song Festival (September 20, KBS Art Hall), the Song Festival (October 19, KT Chamber Hall), and the Cyber Ethics Creative Art and Lesson Competition (November 23, Post Tower).
