Highlighting the Social Responsibilities of Content Creators in Fostering a Healthy Digital Space
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Acting Chairperson Kim Tae-kyu) visited the office of Sandbox Network and hosted a meeting on September 24. The meeting aimed to emphasize the importance of digital ethics and the social responsibilities of content creators.
The meeting included Lee Pil-seong, CEO of Sandbox Network, and Choi Hee, Digital Ethics Ambassador (with 53,500 subscribers), along with Yell Sister (4.37 million subscribers) and Creator Treasure Island (Lee Hyun-seok, Kang Min-seok, and Kim Dong-hyun, totaling 1.89 million subscribers). Prior to the meeting, participants toured the facility, including filming studios and editing rooms, to observe the processes involved in production and distribution of content.
During the meeting that followed the tour, participants identified common ground regarding ethical issues, such as the dissemination of incorrect information by some content creators and the rise of advanced manipulation technologies such as deepfakes. These issues have become increasingly prominent in recent days. The discussion focused on the roles and responsibilities of content creators in addressing these challenges.
Meanwhile, the KCC designated DDotty (real name: Na Hee-sun), Choi Hee, and Yell Sister (real name: Choi Ye-rin) as Digital Ethics Ambassadors for 2024 in December of last year, as part of its efforts to promote the importance of digital ethics. Additionally, the KCC conducts annual educational programs to enhance capacities regarding digital ethics for all groups of people, including preschoolers, youth, parents, teachers, soldiers, and the elderly.
“It was a meaningful occasion to hear various on-site perspectives aimed at realizing ethical values in the digital media landscape,” said Cho Sung-eun, Secretary General of the KCC. “The KCC will remain dedicated to strengthening the capabilities of content creators regarding digital ethics in fostering a healthy media environment, as it has been in the past,” he added.
