Chairman Kim Hong-il of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) visited the Disaster Media Center of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS, President Park Min) on Monday, May 13 to check the disaster broadcasting operation system in preparation for disasters, such as summer storms and flood damage. In addition, KBS's crisis response system to protect its own broadcasting facilities and provide stable broadcasting services in the event of a disaster was checked, and participants were asked to take more active action in preventing disaster damage. KBS has been designated as a broadcaster in charge of disaster broadcasting under Article 40-2 of the Framework Act on Broadcasting Communications Development, has a human, physical, and technical basis for disaster broadcasting, and conducts sign language and foreign language broadcasting for the disaster vulnerable, such as the disabled and foreigners. Chairman Kim said, "We hope that KBS will faithfully play its role as the broadcaster in charge of disaster broadcasting so that it can minimize human and property damage from disasters through accurate and prompt disaster broadcasting," and added, "The KCC will also listen to the inconveniences of disaster broadcasting that broadcasters experience and actively review them so that they can be reflected in policy improvement and make necessary efforts to expand support for disaster broadcasting." Meanwhile, the KCC plans to intensively check the safety of broadcasting facilities of broadcasters in southern coastal areas, such as Jeju and Mokpo from May 13 to June 18, in preparation for disasters caused by heavy rains and typhoons in summer. ### The Korea Communications Commission |
