Kim Tae-kyu, the acting chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) visited the Gwacheon Salvation Army Nursing Home in Gwacheon on Tuesday September 10. During the visit, he listened to feedback from the recipients of TVs designed specifically for individuals with visual and hearing impairments. The KCC will distribute 32,000 units of the tailored TVs, representing a 60% year-over-year increase, to enhance convenience for individuals with visual and hearing impairments in accessing broadcast content. The tailored TVs for individuals with visual and hearing impairments have been distributed consecutively based on the severity of the disability and the seniority of the set quota. Applications for receiving the TVs have been open to individuals with visual and hearing impairments, since April last year, with the quota determined according to income levels (low-income and non-low-income). The acting chairperson emphasized, “Government interest and support are essential to ensure that media is equally accessible to individuals with and without disabilities. Given that media is a critical means of obtaining information and engaging in leisure activities in modern society, this support is crucial.” He added, “The KCC will continue to expand its support for accessible broadcasts by providing additional tailored TVs, ensuring that individuals with visual and hearing impairments can use media content just like individuals without disabilities.” ### The Korea Communications Commission |
