TV LICENSE FEE WAIVER GRANTED TO RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY ACCIDENTAL BOMBING AND WILDFIRES

Residents of the nine special disaster zones will receive six months of support for their television receivers.

Television license fees will be exempted for residents of nine regions designated as special disaster zones due to accidental bombings and large-scale wildfires.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairperson Lee Jinsook) held its 13th Plenary meeting of 2025 (in written form) on the 21st. The KCC approved a license fee waiver for residents affected by the accidental bombings in Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province, as well as the large-scale wildfires in Ulju County in Ulsan City, Andong City in North Gyeongsang Province, Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province, and other areas.

Residents of nine designated special disaster zones-Idong-myeon in Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province; Ulju County in Ulsan City; and Andong City, Yeongdeok County, Yeongyang County, Uiseong County, Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province; as well as Sancheong and Hadong Counties in South Gyeongsang Province?are eligible for the support. A six-month fee waiver will be granted to television receivers that have reported damage and received verification from the relevant local governments.

The KCC has granted TV license fee exemptions 20 times since 2000 to support prompt recovery and to reduce the financial burdens of residents in areas affected by disasters.

Chairperson Lee Jinsook stated, “The KCC will actively support struggling people in affected regions, including designated special disaster zones.”
