The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Acting Chairperson Kim Tae-kyu) hosted the ‘2024 Global OTT Forum’ at The Ambassador Seoul - A Pullman Hotel on Thursday, October 31.
The Global OTT Forum has been hosted annually by the KCC since 2022, aiming to support Korean domestic online video service (OTT) providers in successfully entering the global market. To this end, OTT service providers at home and abroad and governmental organizations (regulatory bodies) abroad are invited to build global networks and share up-to-date information and success stories.
Now in its third year, the forum was attended by not only domestic OTT service providers including Wavve, TVING, Coupang Play, but also by global OTT companies such as the Walt Disney Company and FriDay from Taiwan, along with leading companies in multinational advertisement and PR, OTT related research, and subtitle localization for content.
The forum consisted of 7 sessions and was kicked off by a keynote speech from Carol Choi, EVP of Integrated Marketing and Local Content, APAC, at the Walt Disney Company, titled ‘Creating Best-in-Class Storytelling and Building the Next Global Franchise.’
The forum served as a venue for sharing unique business strategies of OTT services and media providers at home and abroad and for engaging in-depth discussions about measures for co-existence and the development of platforms and content. This included success and response strategies from global companies regarding OTT, market trends in prospective countries including the middle east, new directions for artificial intelligence, and measures for co-existence and development of platforms and content.
“A big task for the domestic content industry is to ensure that Korean content, recognized around the globe, is distributed to viewers in many more countries,” said, the Acting Chairperson. “The KCC will proactively support in the spread of K-OTT around the globe based on measures for co-existence for OTT platforms and the content ecosystem explored in today’s forum.”
