Korea Communications Commission (KCC) announced that it held “The 4th Korea-China Radio Summit” with representatives Yun-Hyun Park from Radio Policy Bureau of KCC and Xie Feibo, Deputy-Director General of Radio Regulatory Department, MIIT of China, in Jeju Island from August 14 (Fri) to August 17 (Mon). The summit resulted in the agreement of Executive Summary Record that contains information on the two nations’ cooperation and development plans in the radio sector.
At the summit, there were discussions on a joint-reaction to the key agenda of the world’s best decision-making entity, ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC, set for 2012) and on cooperative plans with global radio-related organizations.
The two nations confirmed their mutual reactions to WRC’s key agenda including the establishment of an output standard for safely operating 21㎓ band for HDTV satellite broadcasting and protective measures for using 790-862㎒ band in mobile communications. They have agreed to respond together at the future international radio conference.
To meet this end, they have decided to develop a practical affairs team for the development of a cooperative system at conferences related to International Telecommunications Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) and Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT). This summit’s agreement was fulfilled when China accepted Korea’s suggestion that there needs to be a system that can guarantee the execution of the two countries’ proposals at international radio conferences.
KCC announced that it expects the practical affairs team to generate amiable discussions and practices regarding the joint-composition of national drafts at APT Conference Preparatory Group (APG), effective use of radio between the two nations and solutions for radio interference.
Furthermore, they have decided to visit Jeju Radio Management Office and study the facility while exchanging opinions on the present situation and regulation of radio supervision. They have also agreed to develop a consistent cooperative relationship in the radio supervision sector.
Meanwhile, at the radio field-related seminar, they exchanged information on mutual political measures between the two nations through presentations. The subjects of the presentations included related technological trends such as the DTV switchover trial project, frequency technology trends for mobile communications and changes and revisions of radio regulations.
China particularly showed high interest in Korea’s DTV promotion policy and frequency technology trends for mobile communications, and it proposed that the two countries continue exchanging related policies at a bigger scale. The next summit will be held in China following the country’s invitation.
