The conference will discuss policies designed to protect users in relation to AI services, with the theme of “Navigating User Experiences and Safeguards in the AI Era.” The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Acting Chairperson Kim Tae-kyu) and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI, Acting President Jeong-Eon KIM) host the 2024 AI Services User Protection Conference on Monday, September 30. The conference will delve into how to improve regulations and deploy policies to better serve the rights and interests of users in the rapidly changing broadcasting, telecommunications, and media landscape, influenced by the development of artificial intelligence. The conference consists of two sessions. The first session will begin with a keynote speech by Professor Yoon, Hye-Sun at Hanyang University, titled “Protection of Users in the Era of AI: Challenges and Opportunities.” The keynote will provide an overarching framework for the conference topics. It will be followed by individual presentations offering various perspectives from academia and industry. Seong Eun CHO, Fellow at the KISDI will deliver a presentation focused on the processes and key takeaways from the “User Protection Guidelines for Generative AI” developed by the KCC and the KISDI. This will be followed by a presentation from Professor Daeho Lee at Sungkyunkwan University, discussing the implications from developing user protection polices based on empirical research about user experiences. The first session will conclude with Jooyoung HA, attorney at ScatterLab, introducing user protection policies for businesses and sharing case studies on service operation experiences, thereby adding valuable perspectives to user protection policies. In the second session, domestic experts will engage in a comprehensive roundtable discussion. Professor Myung Joo Kim at Seoul Women’s University will preside over the discussion, which will include presenters as well as Professor Kim Seongcheol at Korea University, Professor WookJoon Sung at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Professor Seon, Jiweon at Hanyang University, Heeok Lee, General Manager at Naver, Da-yeon Hwang, representative of Withconsumer, and Moon Jung Wook, Executive Director at the KISDI. The KCC announced that it will develop policies and regulations to guarantee the credibility of AI in this new AI era and protect the rights and interests of users from the downsides of AI, based on various perspectives that will be discussed at the conference. ### The Korea Communications Commission |
