New English FM station in Busan will open officially in February, 2009. This Busan English station will air on FM 90.5MHz for 21hours from 5am to 2am of the following day and comprises initially of 4 hrs 40mins of station-production and 16hrs 20mins of network program and will gradually expand the time allocated for the former.
In September 2009, Busan City established the ’Busan English Broadcast Foundation’ for high-quality English broadcast and received permission for a broadcasting station from the Korea Communications Commission in December.
Following on in December 2008, it hired 8 experts on English broadcast while also placing orders for the set-up of studio, antenna and other broadcast facilities. Busan English FM station will broadcast national, international and local news, music, entertainment and information all in 100% English, thereby providing foreign residents and visitors in Busan with necessary information for daily life while fostering the ability to internationalize the residents and make Busan an international city both in name and reality.
