KCC and ARCEP strengthen cooperation for user protection

On January 24, 2019, Standing Commissioner Ko Sam-seog of the Korea Communications Commission met with Commissioner Serge Abiteboul from ARCEP, France's communications regulator, to discuss key issues in consumer protection in the communications and Internet sphere. The two sides also shared their policies and experiences regarding the worldwide expansion of global operators such as Google and Facebook.

Commissioner Ko and the ARCEP delegation exchanged examples and views on a variety of user protection issues, including the role of regulators in a rapidly changing communications and Internet environment, 5G rollout and net neutrality/network use policies, measures to reduce discrimination against domestic operators compared to overseas operators, and responses to the adverse effects of the Internet.

During the discussion, Commissioner Ko emphasized the importance of international cooperation in reducing reverse discrimination against domestic operators and creating fair market competition. He added, "as we move into the 5G era, we will see more exchange and stronger cooperation between our two sides in creating a fair competition environment and user protection policies."
