Title KCC hosts 2024 Youth Media Production Contest

Diverse competition events are featured under the theme of ‘In Search of New Media for a New Era!’

To celebrate the International Youth Day on Aug. 12, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Acting Chairperson Kim Tae-kyu) hosted the 2024 Youth Media Production Contest at the Daejeon Community Media Foundation Center from August 8 (Thursday) to August 9 (Friday). The event was held in conjunction with the Daejeon Metropolitan City and the Community Media Foundation.

This year's contest, marking its 10th anniversary, was held under the theme of “In Search of New Media for a New Era!” and featured three categories: ? News Production Contest, ? Contest for New Technologies and Public Interest, and ? Contest for Ideas about New Technologies.

Particularly, the Contest for New Technologies and Public Interest, which was introduced for the first time this year, gave youth the opportunity to enhance their social and civic awareness. They were encouraged to create video content related to social issues using new AI media technologies and to deliver messages for the public good through media.

The award ceremony was joined by individuals from various sectors, including the government, broadcasting companies, and other organizations. They presented awards and delivered messages of congratulations and encouragement to the youth who achieved outstanding results.

In the category of “News Production Contest,” the GTN Team (Gowoon Middle School) won the grand prize, presented by the KCC Chairperson. A total of 10 teams were awarded in this category. In the category of “Contest for New Technologies and Public Interest,” the grand prize went to the Environmental Expedition Team Kwantonut (Daejeon Kwanjeo Middle School), with a total of five teams being honored. In the category of “Contest for Ideas about New Technologies,” a total of four teams were honored, including the grand prize winner of Yang Chae-won (Daejeon St. Mary's Girls’ High School) for the individual category.

The KCC said, “This event was a meaningful in discovering what the youth think about new technology-based media such as AI, metaverse, and AR/VR in the evolving media landscape. We will continue to support substantial media education to ensure that future generations can utilize media to express their diverse thoughts.”
