○A sales store preyed on an elderly waste paper collector, who relies on soup kitchens to survive, by luring him into purchasing new mobile devices for three times and services with promises of cheaper bills. Subsequently, the store left the man in a predicament where he was forced to seek mediation due to being burdened with unaffordable expenses.
→The Communications Dispute Mediation Committee mediated that he terminated the wired and wireless services without an extra fee and is exempted from the remaining installment for the mobile device, considering he is in his 80s, has changed three times from December 2020 to January 2023, and paid double with overlapping wired and wireless services.
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Kim Hong-il) published the 2023 communications disputes mediation casebook on February 22, which selected 100 cases among a total of 1,259 applications throughout 2023.
The casebook categorized the 100 helpful cases into five sectors: use contracts, communications service quality, explanation or notification of material provision, app market, and others.
It also contains how to have a communications dispute mediation consultation, the mediation process, and related laws and forms for reference.
Anyone struggling with communications disputes can download the casebook on the Communications Dispute Mediation Committee website at www.tdrc.kr.
Chairman Kim said, "I believe the casebook will prevent the disputes and be helpful for people who want to apply for the mediation." "The KCC will continue to provide support for the committee to become a more professional and reliable damage relief institution," he added.
